Ant Control：- Carpenter ants are the most common type of ants. They prefer drilling and building nests in dead and damp wood.
- Carpenter ants have large body size (length from about 3/8 to 1/2" ) and there are two color types: red and black.
- Carpenter ants consist of four types:
1. Queen: Reproductive female having the largest size especially in the abdomen. With well-developed reproductive organs, their main responsibilites are laying eggs, reproducing next generations and governing the colony.
2. Male ants: Also called paternal ants. They have small spherical-shaped head with thin and long antennas. Their well-developed reproductive organs and external sex organs enable them to mate with the queen as their main duty.
3. Workers: They are normally the smallest size but the largest population in ants’ communities. They are fast and strong runners. Workers are females without reproductive ability. Their main duties are to build and expand the nests, collect food, and feed young ants and the queen.
4. Army ants: With large heads which can break hard food and become weapons when they fight to protect their communities. - Ants are normally classified into carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores.
Threats of Ants:
- Ants will lead to bacterial growth, contamination of food and they would leave unpleasant smell along with their trace. Some species even bite human beings.
- Many types of ants would destroy crops, protect pests and destroy building structures.
- Ants may cause enormous damage to household or offices.
Control Strategies:
- Ant infestations are difficult to control and different strategies should be adopted depending on nest location and food preferences of the ants. The location of ant nests and their food sources are critical for us to suggest which control plan you should choose. Pesticides and ant defense stations can also be applied.
- Household hygiene, removing Pheromone trace, filling the entrance gaps and removing active ants’ nests are effective pest control methods.
