Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach that uses a variety of complementary strategies including physical devices, mechanical devices, genetic, biological, cultural management, and chemical management. These methods are done in three stages: prevention, observation, and intervention.
The IPM approach an ecological approach with a main goal of significantly reducing or eliminating the use of pesticides while at the same time managing pest populations at an acceptable level. It can be applied to both agricultural and non-agricultural settings, such as the home and workplace. IPM takes advantage of all possible pest management options including, but not limited to, the judicious use of pesticides.
